Deck Profile: Blue Tag Team Googeta

Slime Time

Hey FanZ players! It's me, Anthony! I hope everyone is enjoying Universal Clash so far. On July 8th Cheyne, Kevin, and I streamed some games and afterwards Cheyne asked the community which decks they want to see a deck profile on. To my surprise, Googeta won! So today I would like to look at my list, give some commentary on card choices, and my thoughts on some alternative card choices as well. Ultimately, this deck has a ton of options. Everything does big damage and you could build it in a way where every attack will guarantee two anger gained. So while I like my list and believe it is powerful, there is still a lot of experimentation going on and I encourage you to do the same.

After the set released I was not very impressed with this ally. On paper it's okay, but it's easily countered and you have to run Premiere Vegeta levels. They weren't even good back in Set 1! It's almost a recipe for disaster. But the truth is that an additional card in combat and a +4 damage modifier is strong enough to make any deck good. Tag Villain Vegeta in use has actually been decently powerful and a fun-gimmicky alternative to the usual aggressive decks.

Before getting to the list I want to shout out Kelly Dennis. We've been going back and forth on card choices and collaborating on ideas for this deck. At first our lists were more different, but I find it funny to note how similar they have become over time.

THE LIST

Super Dragon Ball 7

Events 8

Blue Energy Push x3
Blue Slap x2

Blue Teamwork x3
Blue Clash x3
Sobering Hammer x3

Android Arm Breaker x3
Suppressive Strike x3
Stomach Crusher x3
Blue Betrayal x3
Blue Flying Kick x2

The MP stack is easy to assemble. Legends level 1 is just the obvious choice and levels 2 and 3 Premiere are your only options. For my take on Googeta, Majin Vegeta Level 4 is there because if I'm on level 4 I've probably beaten my opponent to an absolute pulp anyway so it's time to end the game. Most games your opponent does not survive past your level 2. If you're running Unleashed in your build I could see Premiere level 4 being better, maybe.

So to address the elephant in the room, my list has some off putting choices I'm sure! Super Dragon Balls and Blue Trapped Strike aren't necessarily the first thing you consider when building a hyper aggressive Blue deck but I will defend them here. In this deck you want as many Remain attacks as possible. So we are running Blue Teamwork, Blue Energy Push, and Blue Trapped Strike. Any of these attacks paired with Duplicate Vegeta's damage modifiers and an I'll Dig Your Grave have potential to immediately end a game. Which is good for you because the longer the game goes the more opportunities to remove Duplicate Vegeta your opponent will have. Also Super Dragon Ball 2 gives you that sweet +2 stage modifier and helps buff your already impressive Endurance numbers!

Other than those cards I believe my choices are easier to defend. I run both Stomach Crusher and Suppressive Strike to keep the pressure on the opponent to survive in combat. An emphasis on cards that prevent my opponent from manipulating levels has been made with Android Arm Breaker, Sobering Hammer, and Blue Flying Kick. With a little bit of luck, some well timed spheres, and powerful hit effects active you can go entire games where Unleashed is a dead card for your opponent. One thing that I really enjoy about this deck is that because anger is added to your attacks you can make space for more tech cards and I really tried to take advantage of that while deckbuilding.

Alternative Card Choices

Assisted Kamehameha - An easy choice. Unstoppable, will deal critical damage, and gains 2 anger in this deck! The only reason I'm not running it is because I'm a bit afraid of other physical decks stage locking me. Instead of making a Sinister Choke bullet point I'll just include that here as well. I want to run more stage attacks as well because I feel that if you run too many Non-styled Life Card attacks you should just use Hero Vegeta with Dr. Briefs ally.

Unleashed - It's okay. My only issue with this card in this deck is your levels suck anyway so why waste the deck space? Just run more gas to run your opponent over early. Unleashed also leaves you available to be de-leveled with an opposing Unleashed or Blue Snare.

Blue Stylish Pose/Overpowering Attack/Blue Arrest - More ally tutoring cards. It makes your deck more stable against decks with lots of removal. However, you dilute your deck from having more useful cards while the ally is actually out. An argument could be made for either playstyle.

Vegeta's Gallick Gun/Vegeta's Destruction Blast - These are more named card options you could run. Gallick Gun is incredible and will do a billion damage when it hits. I think Destruction Blast could actually be good in this deck because it will gain you 2 anger and it is "better than Focused." It could be worth slotting in as a two-of to test. I'm simply not doing that because I am afraid of being stage locked.

Honorable Mentions

Vegeta Premiere Level 4, On The Move, Blue Concentrated Blast, and Blue Tracking Blast.

Why Am I Sticky?

Googeta is a really fun gimmick deck. I've enjoyed playing and improving the deck as I go. When you're preparing to play this deck, remind yourself it is a gimmick. One Tug of War popping out in damage at the wrong time can mean an immediate loss for you. So temper your expectations and be prepared to ride a fine line between an unstoppable force and a pillow launcher. That said, I've found the deck to be surprisingly consistent, so it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Thank you Brian McCullar for making me this Dragon Quest Slime themed proxy for Duplicate Vegeta. I'll definitely be sleeving this guy up for some games! Thanks for reading, and see ya next time!

Spoiler: Black Android Visage

Hey everyone! Here is a spoiler for the upcoming set: Black Android Visage.  This card works as a fun alternative to Black Command's Power that is intended to be used with the new Black Ominous Mastery. Even before you get to the trait this card reads pretty strong with a potential Level Up from the mastery at play. MP's like Goku Black, Raditz, and Frost will definitely enjoy having a few of these in their deck. Especially Frost, who can tutor this card on level 3 for a Level Up. Lastly, the Android Trait gives even higher value for a potential -2 to your opponent's hand and a Level Up. For a single action that could be game changing. Luckily there are not a ton of MPs with direct synergy but Cell and Android 16 could work. This card being villains only means it is searchable for A16's powers as well. But then you're playing A16 - a heavy burden to your ability of winning. Thanks for reading and I'll see you guys on OCTGN!

Deck Profile: Manipulative Hero Android 18

When you build a deck, what's the first thing you think of? A big appeal  of a franchise game like DBZ is the concept of playing as a character from such an iconic series. Many players approach deckbuilding by starting with their favorite character, and trying to build a strategy around them. Pic unrelated.     But how do you come up with a new  deck idea? The most common advice is to begin with an MP and Mastery, as it informs the other 60 cards, but choosing one of the many possible combinations can be daunting. Do you pick a strategy first, like stage beats, and then a combination to suit it? Or do you ask further questions before even beginning, like "What is the meta?" and "What counters that?" For me, I found inspiration from doing the unthinkable: I read a card.      Black Confident Shot is an oft-forgotten attack that I loved dearly upon its release. It doubled the modifiers gained from Black Devious Mastery and was one of the few c...

Top-Tier Privilege is a Myth: Op-Ed by Krillin

Hey everybody, it's your local law enforcement agent K-Dawg here. Lately I've been hearing a lot of criticism about this awesome Fan Z game. It seems like a lot of people think certain cards are unfair, or too "sacky." Well with all this time I've had on paid leave, I thought I'd write out some advice to help you guys have fun and win. My first tip?     Git gud, snowflakes.     Look, I get it. Combat can be scary. Your opponent is going to throw a lot of attacks and you might take a lot of damage. I hear it all the time: "I lost because I just didn't draw any blocks." Boo-hoo. I'm out here just like you guys, having to find ways to stay alive. I've gone whole games without drawing blocks. You know what I did? I manned up. I got gud. I played my own attacks as blocks and gained thirty anger before my opponent could respond.     See this is your first mistake.  Why play blocks at all? They're only good some of the time. Me, I realized t...
