Spoiler: Red Barrier

Hey everyone! Here is a new spoiler for the upcoming set: Red Barrier. This is a pretty decent card for Red Relentless decks. It can be tutored by Red Surgical Strike and in tandem with Red Reverse you can have a fairly devastating lineup of mods. Anyways, enjoy and I hope you are looking forward to more spoilers as much as I am!  -Anthony

Tournament Winning Unity Supreme Kai Speedball: NJ Dragon Prix Report

This was a small tournament but the competition was still top tier. Wayne, Kelly, Brian, and the Studioso’s are all players you have to respect sitting across from. So before I start I just want to acknowledge yes it was a smaller tournament but it was hard fought nonetheless. It was actually a last minute decision that I could even make it to the Prix because I found a chance flight to Philadelphia for $66! So if there’s a tournament you’re eyeing up attending don’t be afraid to scout some prices out because you might find a deal!       I played Unity Supreme Kai, a pet deck I’ve been toying with for a few months now. It’s a strong speedball deck, rivaling even Radiant Slug. Anyway, let the games begin! Round 1 DBV L vs. Radiant Slug Wayne This matchup is a grueling grind to the end game. Both of us slap our Dragon Balls down fast and have tons of little ways to capture our DBs back; both without attacking at times. This match was super e...

Red Ruthless Ginyu Tournament Report

Greetings fellow DBZ addicts! This article is coming at you hot on the heels of my undefeated (spoilers) run in the most recent OCTGN League Tournament, hosted by the handsome, skilled and generous Kevin Dennis. I really appreciate the work he did to make this tournament happen, and I am grateful to the devs and other community organizers for everything they do to give us opportunities to hang out with one another and play this stupid, beautiful game.      Before my first match against Kelly Dennis, he asked “Why Ruthless?” In early testing with the Universal Clash expansion, I was most excited to play Red style because of the incredible new toys it received. Red Distracting Shot , Sundering Strike and Charged Beam are all wildly powerful cards, and I wanted to play all of them in a single deck. However, try as I might, I could not escape the fact that Relentless Mastery was relentlessly terrible. In every single game I played, I found myself wishing I was using Ruthl...

Deck Profile: Blue Tag Team Googeta

Slime Time      Hey FanZ players!  It's me, Anthony! I hope everyone is enjoying Universal Clash so far. On July 8th Cheyne, Kevin, and I streamed some games and afterwards Cheyne asked the community which decks they want to see a deck profile on. To my surprise, Googeta won! So today I would like to look at my list, give some commentary on card choices, and my thoughts on some alternative card choices as well. Ultimately, this deck has a ton of options. Everything does big damage and you could build it in a way where every attack will guarantee two anger gained. So while I like my list and believe it is powerful, there is still a lot of experimentation going on and I encourage you to do the same.            After the set released I was not very impressed with this ally. On paper it's okay, but it's easily countered and you have to run Premiere Vegeta levels. They weren't even good back in Set 1! It's almo...

Deck Profile: Manipulative Hero Android 18

When you build a deck, what's the first thing you think of? A big appeal  of a franchise game like DBZ is the concept of playing as a character from such an iconic series. Many players approach deckbuilding by starting with their favorite character, and trying to build a strategy around them. Pic unrelated.     But how do you come up with a new  deck idea? The most common advice is to begin with an MP and Mastery, as it informs the other 60 cards, but choosing one of the many possible combinations can be daunting. Do you pick a strategy first, like stage beats, and then a combination to suit it? Or do you ask further questions before even beginning, like "What is the meta?" and "What counters that?" For me, I found inspiration from doing the unthinkable: I read a card.      Black Confident Shot is an oft-forgotten attack that I loved dearly upon its release. It doubled the modifiers gained from Black Devious Mastery and was one of the few c...

Deck Profile: Orange Energetic Videl

Dragon Ball Z is a show about muscular men punching other muscular men for the fate of the world. Ask anyone with a cursory knowledge of the show to describe DBZ and they'll likely imagine long scenes of monkey men (or occasionally slug men) screaming and flexing until they become buff enough to defeat the villain. But it wasn't always like this; the original Dragon Ball was more whimsical, full of adventure and fun even as it began to focus on high-octane martial arts action. This isn't to disparage DBZ, which used its more serious tone to great effect, but there was a magic to the original Dragon Ball that was lost somewhere along the many Super Saiyan transformations, the sense of wonder and awe fading as one incredible feat of strength after another desensitized the audience to the events happening on-screen.      Until Videl appeared.      Videl is unique among the DBZ cast, not because she's a woman and not because she's a human but because she'...
